Is Male Pattern Baldness Inherited?
Male pattern baldness is an issue that can cause men to become self-conscious and even depressed. Up until now, the reason for male pattern baldness has been unknown. Researchers studied over 52,000 men with varying ethnic backgrounds and found patterns in their genes indicating a link between balding and other medical conditions such as prostate cancer, hypertension (high blood pressure), and heart disease.
The study found that baldness was more likely to be inherited from your mother than your father, but could also be passed down through both parents even if it doesn’t appear in their family tree. In fact, the hair loss gene can come from either side of a person’s family as long as there is at least one balding male.
This is because the trait for baldness has been found on the X chromosome which both men and women have – but only men inherit this Y chromosome from their fathers. The study also indicated that if a man’s father was bald, he had up to a 65% chance of developing hair loss himself at some point in his life.
Men who don’t inherit the balding gene from their father will not go bald and pass it along to their children, but may still develop male pattern baldness later in life if they inherit a copy of the hair loss gene from either side of their family tree. This means that even though paternal relatives might go through male-pattern baldness, the trait may not appear on their son’s head.
Is There A Cure Capable Of Stopping Baldness?
Unfortunately, there is no cure for male pattern baldness. Although many people spend a lot of time and money looking for ways to prevent or reverse hair loss, the only way to treat baldness is by using medications known as “Minoxidil” or “Rogaine.” These work by stimulating blood flow in order to promote new growth which can help thicken your locks.
Minoxidil can also be used to treat women with thinning hair but it has not been approved by the FDA for use on the top of one’s head. At this time, there is no other product that works as effectively as Minoxidil and Rogaine in terms of stopping or reversing baldness.

There is also a surgical procedure known as “hair transplantation” which can be used to replace hair that has fallen out, but it’s expensive and often results in temporary or permanent scarring due to the size of the incisions involved. The average cost for this type of surgery ranges from $4000 – 5000 USD per session depending on how many grafts are needed.
Conclusion
Although doctors are still unsure of what causes male pattern baldness, they know that it’s more likely to be passed down from your mother than your father. If you’re concerned about the possibility of developing this condition later in life, you should speak with a dermatologist or other healthcare professional who specializes in hair loss as soon as possible. They can help you learn more about your risk and the preventative measures you can take to avoid going bald in the future.
